Damn! Looks like the SRT version of the Durango is back and available this summer!
Besides the obvious tons of horsepower melting down 4 tires with a 392 6.4L Hemi engine. There will be an AWD version with a towing capicity of 8600 lbs. We will get the expected goodies like Brembo brakes and aggressive styling similar to the existing 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. Hopefully we will get the choice of RWD as well, but the AWD version should snap off some great 0-60 times. Actually it’s seeing times of 4.4 secs compared to the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT of 4.8 secs. The quarter mile is coming in at 12.9-second at Virginia International Raceway tested by the NHRA. This is with a 3 row grocery getting SUV!
It doesn’t look like my wish of a supercharged version is coming yet, but what we got is a Natural Aspirated 475 hp and 470 lb ft of torque monster of a SUV. We will also get the 8 speed automatic transmission as used in the other Durango models although it’s said to be calibrated to be a sportier version for this SRT model. Like seen in Jeep version we will see The Selec-Track® System that allows the driver to maximize performance. Each setting on the interface precisely adjusts the suspension, torque distribution, shift schedule, stability control and engine mapping making for both a comfortable daily driver and a quarter-mile sprinter. There is 7 different modes including Sport, Track, Snow, and Tow to round things out. The 8.4-inch touchscreen provides performance pages with statistics like dynamic handling, braking, engine horsepower, engine torque, dyno and acceleration. To round out the cabin we get paddle shifters with a T-shifter replacing the wimpy rotor knob seen on the lesser Durango’s. The seating as seen in the pictures come on leather and suede inserts, SRT logos, and a sweet 180-mph speedometer as well as optional Demonic Red Leather. The system will also track what’s happening under the hood with digital gauges that relay battery voltage, oil pressure, coolant and intake air temperature.
For suspension expect to see stiffened front springs by 3 percent and 16 percent stiffer in the rear, which should help tighten things up in the handling department with a 52/48 weight distribution. All this power exits through a tuned exhaust making this SUV sound like a Charger SRT thru its 2.75 duel exhaust as you can hear in the video. This bad boy also weights in at 5510 lbs sitting on top of it’s 20 x 10 wheels.
I for one can’t wait to go and test drive one of these and hopefully save up some coin to buy one. Speaking of price… It’s not announced just yet, but I would expect to see in the 60k range. Check out the pictures and video below. It’s a bad ass SUV!
